Best Look, Less Heat? Fantasia vs. Alicia
The question was posed on a popular radio show as to why Fantasia appears to be getting more scrutinized for her alleged adulterous affair than Alicia Keys. The answer to that question is simple--looks. According to most blogs and tweets that I've read-- most people think that light skinned Alicia Keys looks better than dark brown skinned Fantasia. No post or tweet has directly stated that, but the comments as I read in between the lines, reflect that. Generally, I stay out of the light skin - dark skin debate in the black community because it irks and offends me that the color on ones skin still matters. Sadly, it most certainly does and it's the number one reason that it appears Fantasia is being scrutinized harder than Alicia Keyes.
Fantasia and Alicia Keys are beautiful women. If I were to pick who was more beautiful; I'd go with Fantasia. because I fall into her 'look' category. Or at least I use too a few years back. Fantasia appears to be the kind of 'around the way woman' that every black man would love to have sex with. Sassy cute. Short hair cute. Thick hips and lips cute. Hood cute. Put a drink on your butt cute. Fantasia has the kind of Serena-esq booty that a black man would pay just to touch.
Alicia Keys on the other hand, appears to be the kind of woman that has a universal appeal. She has society - standards of good looks that singers write songs about. She has the kind of look that men want to make wifey. The kind of look that people accept when you allegedly steal someone's husband. She has the kind of looks men tweet about. A few weeks back I read a tweet that stated, "The most beautiful pregnant woman in the world just walked into the studio, Alicia Keys." I was blown away.
It's sad that the light skinned vs. dark skinned debate can't be buried. Its unfair that it appears the lighter complexioned Alicia Keys has somehow not been thrown as far under the bus because she is viewed as more attractive and desirable. Why do some people think Keys is good enough to marry the man that she allegedly took, and that Fantasia is only good enough to be taken. Yes, rumors swirl that her man, whose last name she has tattooed on her chest, set her up to make a buck.
It’s also very sad that in 2010 Red bones still have more fun, or at least they aren't thrown so far under the bus when they allegedly steal someone's man.
Stay strong ladies, only God can judge.
